Medical Tourism – A Clarification
Mediclub India
“Better late than never,” that has been in my mind for the several weeks.
I am not an expert in the field of medical science. In fact I am an Accountancy Professional!, from the Institute of the Cost & Works Accountants of India, known as ICWAI. OK. My partner? He is an Engineer. Mechanical Engineer to boot with. Leave alone the office staff. None of our team members has any medical degree to his/her name. That is about ‘Medical’. Regarding ‘Tourism’ I solemnly declare to the world that we are neither ‘Tour Operators.’
When I receive mails seeking medical advice or at least guidance, I feel that there is misunderstanding with regard to the business what we are in. Or when I receive a mail stating “Let me have a medical tour in India,” I found it difficult to reply.
Cost effective medical treatment for all
This is our mission. There is disparity in demand and supply. On the one hand, there are qualified medical professionals, good facilities, low cost medicines and fully equipped laboratories. On the other side, high cost of treatment, insufficient insurance coverage and ignorance on the part of the patients. It is a Social Issue. Let us not confuse it with BPO, protection of the domestic health industry, and so on. Still the number of patients visiting American or European Hospitals is on the rise, where the cost is not a factor to be reckoned with.
Not only the Governments, but also the Insurance companies have enormous stakes in this issue. The social awareness about medical tourism to India or other countries should be spread out in the interest of the society at large.
What we do in the banner of medical tourism?
We make arrangements with reputed hospitals in Chennai who are capable of providing treatment for a vast range of illnesses and surgery including cardiac, orthopedic, pediatrics and transplant.
We shall fix appointments with the Consultants and schedule your course of treatment in hospital, taking care of documentation with regard to medical check-up, Scanning, Surgery, etc. We make arrangements for travel and hotel booking in connection with your visit for the complete duration of your stay in India. We can organize for post operative recuperation in locations as desired by you.
We want you to interact with the Medical Consultant prior to your visit, if necessary. We are sending the quotations received from the Hospitals to you and strictly advising you to make the payments directly to the Medical Consultants, the Hospitals, Hotels, Travel Companies as the case may be.
Follow up consultations are arranged and the recovery process reviewed as desired.
We arrange transport facilities, and a good English speaking assistant will accompany with you for all your appointments, surgery and local travel.
After your landing in Chennai we will receive you at Air-port, and take all efforts to ensure that our program runs as per schedule and you feel comfortable during your stay in India.

Medicare Mission
Medical Tourism is a novel concept whereby the people move from one place of the world to another place for medical treatment. There are various factors governing the selection of the place for treatment. Spreading this concept of 'Cost effective medicare for all' is really a Medicare Mission.
Cost consideration:
For example Surgery, Organ Transplant and other Medical Treatments in India cost only 20% of the normal cost in USA. Even Insurance cover in many cases is not sufficient to undergo treatments in US or Europe. The patients are suffering or endlessly postponing the treatment, simply because they are unable to meet the medical expenses involved. When the treatment becomes affordable by going to such places, the suffering is mainly due to ignorance.
Hospitals & Facilities:
Cost alone can not be the deciding factor. Low cost medical treatment is fine. But, the availability of the experienced and the reputed medical consultants, good hospitals and medical facilities are very important. India has very good hospitals, medical consultants and facilities. The quality of the service is at par with US and Europe. As far as the experience is concerned we should remember that India is blessed with human population that is very huge. Naturally, the Doctors are handling numerous cases and well experienced in their fields. There are so many world famous surgeons and medical consultants in India. The pharmaceutical industry in the country is very well developed and exporting medicines to US, Europe and the rest of the world.
Other Factors:
India, with so many regional languages, states and religions is united by English.
There are excellent international hotels throughout the country, especially metros such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and so on.
There are very good tourist spots scattered throughout the country ideal for recuperation.
Co-ordinating Agencies:
There are professional Agencies such as Mediclub India (The author is the promotor of Mediclub India) that take care of the arrangements necessary for treatment in India. A visit to their web site mediclubindia.com or medicaltourism.webnode.com will give the readers complete details.
